12 reads PERFECT for a book club discussion (released in 2021)

Let’s just say you have a book club (we do) and you need some titles to put forward to your members to choose from (mood). I thought I would put together some of 2021’s biggest and most anticipated releases that I *think* would make really interesting book club reads.

A quick message about our book club:

BookClubbers is our community driven space for readers to come together and enjoy (or hate and then enjoy whaling on) a selected title a month. We give our Twitter/Instagram audience the opportunity to pick between four titles each month.

Then the top two are presented to our Patreon members to have the final say on the pick for the month.

Is it free? You bet. Anyone can join in. We have a book club discussion on Instagram Live at the end of the month and we produce articles and other content around the chosen book.

But… Patreon? Yeah! If you want the full, no-holds-barred BookClubbers experience then you can sign up on Patreon and in doing so, you also support us to keep doing what we do.

For example:

An example of one of the assets we create MONTHLY for our Patreon. Provided as a PDF so the links work and you can fully explore the bibliography.

What do we even do? I know, I know. We’re just a small fry in the wider bookish community. But we have big plans. Including a podcast, and other bookish projects where we want to give back to those who support us.

There’s three tiers to choose from, each one a little more involved than the previous. So you can be completely hands-free and go for £1 a month (yep, that’s it!) or go FULL ON BookClubber and receive access to our exclusive Discord, receive exclusive content and other exclusive bits and bobs (did you get that it’s exclusive?)

Eh, or just give us a follow on Instagram. That would really make our day too.

Join BookClubbers here. Or shoot us a DM on Twitter.

Which books have caught my eye for 2021?

We don’t limit our picks for BookClubbers to be solely new releases, not at all. But these books look really fun to read and discuss. Plus, always need something to pre-order on my radar.

book club reads 2021

The release dates are for physical copies (bar one). Some of these are already available, or will be soon, on Kindle.

‘Detransition, Baby’ by Torrey Peters - I have just bought this on Kindle and I’m really excited to read it. January 7th.

‘The Girls I’ve Been’ by Tess Sharpe - ‘Far From You’ was one of my favourite YA books for so long. It still packs a real punch and it would make a great book club pick too. I haven’t actually read anything else from them so I’m interested to dive into their writing again. February 4th.

‘Transcendent Kingdom’ by Yaa Gyasi - I have heard nothing but great things about this book. And that cover. THAT COVER. March 4th.

‘The Wife Upstairs’ by Rachel Hawkins - Another firm favourite from the YA scene (I was in LOVE with the cover for ‘Rebel Belle’ back in the day). But this time it’s a Jane Eyre inspired adult thriller and I am here for it. I just bought this on e-book too. April 29th.

‘The End of Men’ by Christina Sweeney-Baird - I did not pluck this one out purely based on the title. But it was definitely the title. It’s been a year, let’s explore this possibility. April 29th.

‘One Last Stop’ by Casey McQuiston - BOOKCLUBBERS JUNE PICK. As I write this we’re a week into June and this book was selected by our Patreons for this month. Just a fab little sapphic summer read. Thank yew. June 1st (Kindle).

‘Seven Days in June’ by Tia Williams - A book about reconnecting… And writers. Romantic, poignant. Set in NYC. I’m very intrigued by this one. June 2nd.

‘The Maidens’ by Alex Michaelides - When I say I NEED this book I really mean that I need it. This has Dark Academia vibes written all over it. June 15th.

‘You and Me on Vacation’ by Emily Henry - AKA ‘People We Meet on Vacation’ but the UK seems determined to do this author dirty. If you’ve seen what they did to the cover ‘Beach Read’ then you’ll know what I mean. Still, this would be a lovely summer book club pick. July 8th.

‘The Thousand Crimes of Ming Tsu’ by Tom Lin - Shh, my secret love of the Western genre has been tickled. I love how it’s starting to be reinvented and shown through a different lens. September 16th.

‘Peaces’ by Helen Oyeyemi - Magical Realism. Sign me up. A couple take a trip on a very peculiar sleeper train. November 4th.

‘Love, Lists and Fancy Ships’ by Sarah Grunder Ruiz - As an auntie to many the soft, romantic appeal of this book is everything I think I need. Not out until November 23rd. Sad times.

Which would you pick out of these?
