18 books on my Spring TBR

I know that Spring is technically until June 21st - the Summer Equinox - but for me, I see Spring as March, April and May.

The temperature is slowly rising in the south of England, the rain is in full force, the evenings are lighter every day and there are daffodils everywhere - it’s such a wonderful time for reading.

Considering March is already over and I’ll be on holiday for 10 days of April, 18 books in two months may seem a little ambitious, but so far this year I’ve actually managed to read 12 books a month. This is totally doable! (I hope).

Like always, I want a mix of genres: fantasy, urban fantasy, romance, retellings and even a smattering of literary fiction. Gotta keep it fresh.

These are 18 books that I would really, really like to get to over the next two months.

  • ‘Love on the Brain’ by Ali Hazelwood - yep, I’m officially aboard the hype train, but I’m trying to space them out a little as I know they’re all very similar!

  • ‘How High We Go in the Dark’ by Sequoia Nagamatsu - I love end of the world/pandemic books and I’ve heard such incredible things about this lately.

  • ‘Both Feet in the Grave’ by Jeaniene Frost - another retelling of the main series in Bones’ POV? Sign me the heck up!

  • ‘Romantic Comedy’ by Curtis Sittenfeld - I adore what I’ve read of Sittenfeld’s and I’m so excited to see how she writes romance.

  • ‘Only Love Can Hurt Like This’ by Paige Toon - I’ve fallen a bit behind on Toon’s novels in the last few years, but I love the emotional impact of her stories and I’m ready to dive back in.

  • ‘This Family’ by Kate Sawyer - I absolutely adored Sawyer’s debut ‘The Stranding’, so my hopes are HIGH.

  • ‘Stone Blind’ by Natalie Haynes - this is probably the only book on the Women’s Prize longlist for 2023 that I still want to tackle after DNFing about three of them, because Medusa.

  • ‘Chain of Thorns’ by Cassandra Clare - I’m reading ‘Chain of Iron’ at the moment and I’m hoping I’ll be emotionally ready for the finale soon…

  • ‘Hell Bent’ by Leigh Bardugo - I had mixed feelings about ‘Ninth House’, but I’m more than intrigued enough to continue with Alex’s story.

  • ‘Babel’ by RF Kuang - am I intimidated? Absolutely. Is that going to stop me? Absolutely not.

  • ‘Happy Place’ by Emily Henry - I don’t even care what this book is about, it’s Emily Henry so I’ll read it.

  • ‘The Shadow Cabinet’ by Juno Dawson - after the ending of ‘Her Majesty’s Royal Coven’, I am in NEED of this book asap.

  • ‘Notes on an Execution’ by Danya Kukafka - I don’t really read thrillers, but there’s something about this one that’s calling to me.

  • ‘Covet’ by Tracy Wolff - these books are just so longggg. I would have read this a long time ago if it wasn’t 870 pages, but the time is right now.

  • ‘Loathe to Love You’ by Ali Hazelwood - less excited about these novellas than her full novels, but I’m all in now.

  • ‘The Study of Poisons’ by Maria V Snyder - the ‘Chronicles of Ixia’ is one of my favourite ever series and getting the chance to go back to this world in Valek’s POV is going to be a treat!

  • ‘Are You Happy Now’ by Hanna Jameson - this is another end of the world story, but with a literary twist that I’m really intrigued by.

  • ‘The Blade Itself’ by Joe Abercrombie - I have no idea if I’m going to enjoy this long, slow fantasy, but it’s on my list of big fantasy series’ to try in 2023.

I’d love to know what you’re planning on reading this Spring!
