9 summer 2023 book releases that might have missed your notice
There are so many books releasing, literally all the time. Every week brings a fresh wave of new titles to be read, to be reviewed, to be ogled at during your bi-monthly visit to the book shop. So it’s pretty impressive if you can keep up with every single title coming soon.
Here I’ve put together a list of books that I personally have only just seen blipping on my radar. I haven’t inlcuded sequels or additional series titles, cos if you know you know with those… You know? And I’ve gone for a bit of mix. Basically anything that caught my eye and set of my tingly reader sense.
All of these release somewhere in the June-September period. Summer. Sort of.
(I’m not going to spam this page with book summaries, just clicky the title to go through to Goodreads)
‘Mister Magic’ by Kiersten White - A supernatural thriller from one of my favourite authors. Biased? Yes. But you can always trust White to deliver solid reads, and this looks like a lot of fun.
‘The Water Outlaws’ by S. L. Huang - “The Water Outlaws are bandits of devastating ruthlessness, unseemly femininity, dangerous philosophies, and ungovernable gender who are ready to make history—or tear it apart.” Absolutely yes.
‘Tomb Sweeping’ by Alexandra Chang - If the cover didn’t draw you in then we can’t be friends. This is a collection of short stories that promises to take you through a whole spectrum of emotions and moments. I need it.
‘The Blonde Identity’ by Ally Carter - How old are you, and were you a teenager for the Gallagher Girls series? Y/N? Either way, this has the quintessential Carter stamp all over it. Pitched as a road trip rom-com. Get on my shelf.
‘My Roommate Is a Vampire’ by Jenna Levine - Title. Sold.
‘Vampires of El Norte’ by Isabel Cañas - Title. Sold. But if you need more than that: “Vampires and vaqueros face off on the Texas-Mexico border in this supernatural western from the author of The Hacienda.”
‘Silver Nitrate’ by Silvia Moreno-Garcia - I’m not 100% sure that Moreno-Garcia has the kind of writing style I truly click with. That said, the concepts and settings are always just so chefs kiss immaculate that I keep coming back for me. This title is a meld of Mexican cult horror films and “Nazi occultism”. Colour me intrigued.
‘The Deep Sky’ by Yume Kitasei - I am a sucker for an honest-to-goodness SF story. Like, proper outer space stuff. And this is like a deep space thriller? I guess? A whodunnit but in zero gravity conditions.
‘Hemlock Island’ by Kelly Armstrong - As in the Kelly Armstrong. You know the one. I will instantly sit up and listen whenever she releases a book, and this one looks so good. Moving away from urban fantasy, paranormal romance that I know and love her for, this is a horror-y thriller-y mystery? It looks like it could be chilling and atmospheric. I want it.
So these are my picks for upcoming releases this summer. Are any of these already on your tbr?
