All of the biggest announcements from Disney’s Biggest Fan Convention, D23: Frozen 3, Zootopia 2 and Monstroplis coming to Hollywood Studios!

It’s no secrets that Sarah and I are Disney Adults™️ and this past weekend was a big Disney event in the calendar: D23.

D23 is the official Disney fan club and hosts a 3-day biannual conference in Anaheim, CA. With a marketplace, exclusive merch, photo opportunities, panels, events, a legendary cosplay competition, and so much exclusive Disney news.

Now, we sadly haven’t been to the event and I’m not sure it’s something that we’ll be able to attend, but we do follow the news very closely as this event brings the biggest and most shocking Disney news of the year every time. The panels that announce all of the juicy gossip tend to happen when we’re fast asleep in the UK so it’s always a joy to wake up and scroll through Instagram to find out what’s coming our way.

There are two major panels at D23 that announce the big film and TV news, and then the Parks and experiences news which we’re most interested in: Horizons: Disney Experiences Showcase and Horizons: Disney Entertainment Showcase.

There was a LOT of news out of the even this year so there’s a lot to cover. I’m going to break it down in two sections to match the panels, and I’ll only be covering Disney, Pixar, and limited Star Wars and Marvel when it applies to the parks.

Movie and TV Announcements

Win or Lose (6 Dec 2024)

A mockumentary style ‘Inside Out’ spin-off TV series on Disney+ which follows ‘Dream Productions’ as they make ‘Inside Out’. This is Pixar’s first original TV series on Disney+.

Mufasa: The Lion King (20 Dec 2024)

In the style of the live action ‘The Lion King’ (2019), ‘Mufasa’ looks at the early days of Mufasa and Scar. New music has been written by Lin-Manuel Miranda.

Snow White (21 March 2025)

Rachel Zegler and Gal Gadot bring Snow and the Evil Queen back to the big screen in a live action version of the first ever feature length cel animated film, and the beginning of the legendary Disney Princesses.

Elio (June 2025)

An exclusive trailer was revealed for this original story set in space and Zoe Saldana was announced as joining Jameela Jamil, Yonas Kibreab and Brad Garrett as a young boy is chosen to be Earth’s ambassador to a group of aliens as he’s transported into space.

Lilo and Stitch (Summer 2025)

A live action Hawaiian adventure featuring everyone’s favourite fluffy blue alien will hit cinemas in summer 2025.

Tron: Ares (10 Oct 2025)

The next instalment in this series saw Jared Leto and Jeff bridges announce the movie’s collaboration with ‘Nine Inch Nails’ (!!!) with a villain who wants to take over the real world.

Zootopia 2 (26 Nov 2025)

Ginnifer Goodwin, also known as Judy Hopps, announced the follow up movie which follows a wanted viper, Gary, played by Ke Huy Quan and develops a new area of the animal kingdom with Marsh Market.

Avatar: Fire and Ash (19 Dec 2025)

Zoe Saldana and Sam Worthington will return for the third instalment of the franchise, with two further sequels to follow in 2029 and 2031.

Hoppers (Spring 2026)

A brand new story from Pixar starring Jon Hamm, Bobby Moynihan and Piper Curda. Scientists have discovered how to allow humans to communicate with animals by “hopping’ human consciousness into robotic animals!

Toy Story 5 (Summer 2026)

Very little about this film was revealed, but we do know that Buzz, Woody and Jessie will go up against the rise of tech in children’s lives and will be directed by Andrew Stanton (‘Wall-E’ and ‘Finding Nemo’.

Frozen 3 (2027)

Incredibles 3 (TBC)

The film is in production, but no further details have been announced.

Everything Else (and there’s a lot of it…)

Season 2 of ‘Percy Jackson and the Olympians’ is in production and will be released in 2025 (I’m VERY excited about this, I loved season one)
‘Frozen: The Musical’ is going to be available on Disney+ in 2025 (also very exciting, Sarah and I saw this in London and loved it)
‘Hercules’ will be debuting on London’s West End in summer 2025 (me and Sarah will definitely be seeing this!)
‘The Greatest Showman’ is currently in production to be adapted for the stage
‘Skeleton Crew’ is a new Star Wars live action TV series starring Jude Law and will debut on Disney+ in December 2024
‘Andor’ is returning for a second season
‘The Mandalorian & Grogu’ movie will head to cinemas in 2026
‘Ironheart’, a new Marvel series, will debut on Disney+ in 2025
Season 1 of ‘Daredevil: Born Again’ will launch in March 2025
‘Agatha All Along’ will hit screens on 18 September 2024
‘Freakier Friday’, the sequel to ‘Freaky Friday’, will be released in 2025

Walt Disney World

Villains Land is coming to Magic Kingdom
Monstropolis is coming to Hollywood Studios and will feature Disney’s first ever suspended rollercoaster. Work is due to begin in 2025, but no information regarding the location of the land has been announced

Dinoland in Animal Kingdom will be Tropical Americanas in a full immersive land with dining, shops and two attractions: an ‘Encanto’ boat ride and the re-theming of ‘Dinosaur’ (RIP) into an ‘Indiana Jones’ rides that differs from those existing in Paris, California and Tokyo
Another expansion will be hitting Magic Kingdom with two ‘Cars’ attractions set outside of Radiator Springs: a rally car race and another more geared towards children
‘Smugglers Run’ will get a new Mandalorian and Grogu story in both Florida and Anaheim in 2026
Disney Starlight, a new nighttime parade, will start in Magic Kingdom in 2025

A ‘Coco’ attraction is heading to DCA
We already knew that a version of Pandora would be heading to DCA, but it was confirmed that there will be a water attraction inspired by ‘Avatar: Way of Water’ and the films to come
Avengers Campus in DCA will be expanded with two attractions: ‘Avengers Infinity Defense’ and ‘Stark Flight Lab’ which will return Robert Downey Jr to his role as Iron Man
‘Smugglers Run’ will get a new Mandalorian and Grogu story in both Florida and Anaheim in 2026
‘Walt Disney: A Magical Life’ is going to be the first audio animatronic based on Walt in the Main Street Opera in Disneyland in 2025
‘Tiana’s Bayou Adventure’ will open in November 2024
