11 cosy paranormal romances (witchy and contemporary)

It feels like the right time of year to be snuggling up with a book that is equally as warm and cosy. If you're from across the pond, then please pretend I wrote “cozy” romances. That sneaky Z.

This all started because I was hunting for 2024 releases… And then I ended up down a paranormal romance wormhole. But not in the mid 00s kind of way. These contemporary romances have much in common; mostly the cover style. A clever marketing ploy for sure.

Here's my list, some newer than others. But all promise to be perfectly cosy, like a knitted jumper (threaded with just a glimmer of magic):

A Witch's Guide to Magical Innkeeping by Sangu Mandanna

This is the book that started all of this. I saw it and knew I needed it. Look how adorable this cover is. Plus, it's the trusty “inheting an inn” trope made popular in the best of Hallmark seasonal movies. Expected release: April 2024.

The Witch is Back by Sophie H. Morgan

Look how darn cute this cover is! We've got a broken engagement, the returning fool trying to win her back, a wallflower of a witch, and a DOG. Plus, witchy magic. Let's gooooo.

Hex and the City by Kate Johnson

She's got hair like Rapunzel, and she's accidentally sold a famous guy (a hot famous guy) a cursed pendant from the shop she works at in Convent Garden.

This sounds like an absolute romp. I'm in.

Something Wicked by Gretchen Rue

Inherited house from a beloved aunt alert! Also, surprise! She was a witch, and so are you! Cosy murder mystery, a teashop, a meet cute.

The tropes hit hard and fast in this one, and I'm not mad about it.

Playing the Witch Chard by KJ Dell'Antonia

Billed as ‘Gilmore Girls' meets ‘Practical Magic'. Do you need to know any more? It's got a Halloweeny setting, so if you're a Spooky Season Every Season type, this is for you.

Witcha Gonna Do? Avery Flynn

A witch who can't witch, and an enermies to lovers plot line? Yep. Tick. I ADORE the cover. I want it based on that alone.

Witches Get Stuff Done by Molly Harper

Librarian love interest alert! Rupert Giles fans, hello? This is yours. There's witches and ghosts and magic and… love? ;)

What the Hex by Jessica Clare

This is book 2 in the series but I think it can be read as a standalone. I like the sound of this one better. That tried and tested enemies to lovers trope at work again.

A Witch's Guide to Fake Dating a Demon by Sarah Hawley

There's something about these “witch's guides” that just draw me in. Hook, line and sinker. How cute is this cover? Plus the title hits all the tropes. It's just chefs kiss.

This Spells Love by Kate Robb

If you could cast a spell to erase the heartbreak… We've all thought it, right? This uses many fairytale tropes; the kiss to break the spell, the wish gone wrong, the one true love. I really like the concept.

Enchanted to Meet You by Meg Cabot

I had to put this on here. It's Meg Cabot for magic's sake. The cover is perfect, and I have no reason to doubt that the inside would be any less.

What do you think? Have you read any of these?
