6 BookTok books I want to read in 2022

One one hand I want 2022 to be a year of reading for me, and for me only, and on the other I want it to be a year of keeping up with trends and what’s popular on BookTok so I don’t get as much fomo… It’s an ongoing battle.

After taking a look at my wishlists and my Kindle TBR, I realised that the two actually do intersect. There are popular, buzzy books that I bought before, during or after the hype because they spoke to me. They’re books I genuinely want to read.

The fantasy novels that promise to sweep me away, the romances that promise to make me swoon, and the popular fiction novels that promise to take my breath away. Those are all things that I can get behind.

So here are 6 BookTok books that were already on my Kindle or my wishlist that I want to read during the next year, whether the hype sticks around or not.

  • ‘We Hunt the Flame’ by Hafsah Faizal - an ancient Arabian inspired fantasy novel about a hunter and the Prince of Death. Could that sound any cooler?! I believe it’s only a duology too.

  • ‘From Blood and Ash’ by Jennifer L Armentrout - I read a lot of JLA’s books back in the day, but I haven’t read her for years and I’m ready to see what all the fuss is about.

  • ‘The Love Hypothesis’ by Ali Hazelwood - Science! Fake dating! I’m in! Sarah recently bought herself a copy of this and I’m anxiously awaiting her verdict, though I’ll definitely be giving it a go myself. It just sounds so FUN.

  • ‘The Spanish Love Deception’ by Elena Armas - Enemies-to-lovers AND fake dating - it sounds like a hugely fun romance and I have it ready to go on my Kindle!

  • ‘Malibu Rising’ by Taylor Jenkins Reid - Full disclosure: I was meant to read this in 2021 and I just didn’t get around to it. I feel in love with ‘Daisy Jones and the Six’ in 2021 and I’m going to slowly devour her entire backlist.

  • ‘These Violent Delights’ by Chloe Gong - A ‘Romeo and Juliet’ retelling set in 1920s Shanghai honestly couldn’t sound any better! It’s also another duology which makes it a less scary commitment.

Have you started making 2022 reading plans yet?
