16 queer books, new releases for 2022
This list of new queer books was inspired by the 2022 romance releases list I did last week. There were so many great queer titles that I felt like they needed their own dedicated post.
Last year we had a lot of love for ‘One Last Stop’ by Casey McQuiston, you can see our blog posts and review for that here:
As for 2022 books, I’ve already read ‘Something Fabulous’ by Alexis Hall which came out in February.
But I can already tell this list is going to be dangerous for my bank account… Here’s to being queer!
‘I Kissed Shara Wheeler’ by Casey McQuiston - May 12th - I would read a shopping list written by Casey McQuiston. I cannot wait to get my hands on this book. Queer, young adult, contemporary mystery, and romance. And the cover is mwah.
‘Home Field Advantage’ by Dahlia Adler - June 7th - The cheerleader and the quarterback. A tale as old as American high schools. But what if the quarterback is a girl? Um, yes. I’m going to need this in my face immediately.
The Lesbiana’s Guide to Catholic School by Sonora Reyes - 17th May - Alright, alright. Let’s just have a moment to appreciate the beauty of the cover. inhales Ok, we good? Good. Because I am so excited for this title. Navigating queer identity in a cishet world is hard, even more so at Catholic school I imagine, eh? Need this book. Need.
‘Delilah Green Doesn’t Care’ by Ashley Herring Blake - February 22nd - Let’s here it for all the sapphic love this year. Delightfully queer, author Alexis Hall highly rates it on Goodreads so that’s all the encouragement I need.
‘Something Fabulous’ by Alexis Hall - February 6th - Speaking of this author… I really enjoyed this book. Think Bridgerton, but it was written just for your queer little heart, and only yours. That’s how I feel about it. It’s so much fun.
‘Chef’s Kiss’ by Jarrett Melendez, Danica Brine (Illustrations), Hank Jones, Hassan Otsmane-Elhaou - 1st March - Fresh out of college, Ben wants to find a job in his field of study. Writing jobs are proving difficult to lock down, so when a “no experience necessary” advert is posted, he jumps at it… But it’s a chef’s position. This graphic novel promises to be a gay slice of slice in the cutest way. I need it.
‘Spin Me Right Round’ by David Valdes - January 4th - Think ‘Back to the Future’ but make it gay. (Or gayer, depending on your reading of that film).
Golden Boys by Phil Stamper - February 8th - It’s Phil Stamper. Get into it. I really enjoued ‘As Far As You’ll Take Me’ last year and it’s given me absolute faith in their writing. This promises to be a story centred on queer friendship which I am here for.
‘The Alpha’s Son’ by Penny Jessup - February 12th - Teen Wolf meets ‘Wranglestone’. I feel like it’s been too long since we’ve had a good werewolf story, and I think all that tranformation and angst fits a YA novel perfectly.
‘I’m So (Not) Over You’ by Kosoko Jackson - February 22nd - Fake relationship trope alert! So if that’s your jam then this book is ready to be spread on your toast (weird analogy, but it works? I think?) I’m also loving this cover design style. It’s been trending for a while now and I hope it sticks around for much longer.
‘Youngblood’ by Sasha Laurens - July 19th - Imagine all of your favourite YA romance tropes, throw in some vampires, and make it lesbian… That’s the vibe I’m getting from ‘Youngblood’. Absoloute ridiculous but in the best possible way.
‘A Million to One’ by Adiba Jaigirdar - December 13th - Everywhere I look on Goodreads people are screaming SAPPHIC HEIST ON THE TITANIC and really I don’t need anything else. I am sold. It’s just sad that we have to wait until the end of the year to get our hands on it.
‘Melt With You’ by Jennifer Dugan - May 17th - From the author of ‘Hot Dog Girl’ and ‘Some Girls Do’ so you know you’re in good hands with this one. A messy, romantic and heart-twisting story about friendship, kisses and navigating everything in between.
‘She Gets the Girl’ by Rachel Lippincott and Alyson Derrick - April 5th - “I wrote a book with my wife” says Lippincott on Goodreads and I can’t wait to read it. There is a lot of buzz already around this title. Two friends help each other to get the girls they have crushes on… But maybe they’re falling for each other instead. Also, rollerskates.
‘Ophelia After All’ by Raquel Marie - February 8th - A coming-of-age YA debut, Ophelia is trying to tread the line between being truly herself and who others expect her to be. Queer awakening, full of heart, this book sounds so achingly sweet.
‘Love Somebody’ by Rachel Roasek - January 11th - A romcom with love triangle vibes (but not in an icky way?) This is very much a book about falling in love, in every form that takes.
This list is by now means complete. There are so many other great queer titles releasing in 2022. Is there a book you I’d featured here? Let me know!
