Bali: We fell in love with the Seminyak foodie scene

It's a truth universally acknowledged that when Sophie and Sarah travel, 100% of those travels revolve around food.

Our trip to Bali in September 2019 was no expception.

We stayed at the Hard Rock Hotel on Kuta Beach which was an experience we completely loved and Seminyak is only a 30 minute drive from the hotel. We did all of Seminyak in the blistering heat of the afternoon sun and so within only a few minutes we were ready for our first stop.

Motel Mexicola

We started with a refreshing 'Joketail' and both had a Lollipop which was raspberry, elderflower, lime and soda, complete with a lollipop in the glass! You know the sticks of rock you get on Brighton Beach? It had that kind of flavour and texture and it was delicious.

The 'Lollipop' was 60k IDR (around £3.30) and then we also shared some churros. Which we DEVOURED. They were honestly some of the best churros we've ever had. They came with cinnamon sugar, a dark chocolate sauce and a caramel sauce and were 50k IDR (around £2.76) for four.

I honestly wish we could have tried everything at Motel Mexicola. Everything that we saw coming out from the kitchen looked incredible. Plus, the restaurant itself looks amazing.

We went from dessert to dessert and headed to...

Mad Pops

Mad Pops is an artisanal vegan ice cream and popsicle shop with a few destinations around Bali. It prides itself on fresh, local ingredients, being environmentally friendly, and having hugely 'grammable little stores of course.

I had the mango sorbet ice cream, which I actually didn't really like all that much. The texture was really nice for a vegan ice cream, but the flavour was a little off for me. Sarah had one of the fruity popsicles which she really enjoyed. Both were 30k IDR, or £1.65.

We finally decided it was time for something savoury after our ice cream pitstop.

Coffee Cartel

Neither of us actually like coffee so we decided against getting one of the famous Pink Beetroot Lattes. Instead I went for an Ice Chocolate (40k IDR/£2.20) which was sorely needed in the scorching heat while Sarah had a Diet Coke. We also grabbed a few small bites to share: sweet potato fries and katsu chicken nuggets which were SO GOOD.

Coffee Cartel is such a perfect stop-gap for some really good food in the middle of your Seminyak beach day. And if you like Instagrammable hot drinks then it's even better!

And then our final stop was the one that we were most excited about. The one plastered all over Instagram:

Strawberry Fields

This could possibly be the most Instagram restaurant I've ever eaten in, but the food also lived up to that status, too. The BURGER. Oh my days. Everything we ate here was delicious.

We had one of the crazy Strawberry Fields burgers, the 'Blame Bieber' Burger, which was beef, American cheese, Canadian Poutine fries, maple bacon and bacon aioli. Yeah, you read that right - fries in a burger! It was only 115k IDR/£6.35 and unbelievably good. We were pretty full by this point so we shared the burger and a side of mac 'n' cheese balls which were around 50k IDR/£2.76. So. Good.

Strawberry Fields was another place where we wished we could have tried every single one of the burgers and sides. And it also would have been great to see it at night when I'm sure it comes alive with it's amazing cocktail menu

Seminyak was a total foodie dream and I wish we had longer to explore everything it had to offer. I’m sure we missed some really great spots and I hope we get to go back one day.

With the beach, the nightlife, beach clubs and all of the delicious and low cost food options that Seminyak has to offer, it’d be a great place to base yourself in while in southern Bali.
