Sophie’s 12 Most Anticipated Reads of June to December 2022
Can you believe that we’re almost at the halfway point of 2022? That’s blowing my mind.
And I’m so behind on literally everything I wanted to read this year…
We’ve been super busy with the podcast this year, planning our first trip abroad since the beginning of The Great Unpleasantness and generally getting a bit bogged down with our day jobs, and will I’m still reading, I’m reading a lot more slowly than normal.
Has that stopped me pre-ordering new releases and adding them to reading lists and TBRs? Obviously not.
These are a few that I’m most anticipating from June to December.
sings Let’s talk about books, ba-by!
‘Thank You for Listening’ by Julia Whelan - I adored Whelan’s ‘An Oxford Year’ and she’s one of my favourite audiobook narrators.
‘Friends Like These’ by Meg Rosoff - I love Meg Rosoff and I will read anything and everything she writes. I have no idea what this is about because I don’t need to!
‘The Bullet That Missed’ by Richard Osman - like most of the world, I’ve been totally sucked into Osman’s world of geriatric cosy crime.
‘A Certain Hunger’ by Chelsea G Summers - this is a strange-sounding literary novel about a woman with a worryingly voracious, and unusual, appetite.
‘The Men’ by Sandra Newman - when camping with her family, Jane’s husband and son vanish into thin air along with every single person with a Y chromosome. And no one knows why… dun dun dun
‘The Rise and Reign of the Mammals’ by Steve Brusatte - I adored Brusatte’s dinosaur book so I’m super excited about this!
‘Mina and the Slayers’ by Amy McCaw - I’m just so ready for vampires to be back in fashion again, I love this New Orleans 90s vamp slaying series.
‘The Ministry of Unladylike Activity’ by Robin Stevens '- the queen of middle grade crime is coming back and while' I’m a tad nervous as I love MMU so much, I’m mostly just beside myself with excitement.
‘Undoctored’ by Adam Kay - who isn’t an Adam Kay fan at this point?
‘Carrie Soto is Back’ by Taylor Jenkins Reid - I’m on a TJR journey at the moment and this takes a character from ‘Malibu Rising’ and puts her story at the forefront.
‘Briefly, a Delicious Life’ by Nell Stevens - Stevens writes wonderful meldings of bibliomemoir and fiction and this is first novel, inspired by Chopin and George Sand.
‘Life Ceremony’ by Sayaka Murata - this is a short story collection from the author of ‘Convenience Store Woman’ and while I’m not a short story aficionado, I’m invested in her writing enough to give it a go.
If you’d like to check out any of these titles, we’d love it if you could support us using our Bookshop.org affiliate and support and independent bookshop too!
Are any of these on your wishlist or pre-orders? What are you looking forward to for the rest of this year?
