The Summer AV Club is happening RIGHT NOW

We’ve taken a bit of a break from wanging on about our lovely The Dark Academicals Book Club community over on Substack, so hi, let’s do that again.

We have something really, really cool happening over there at the moment. Our Curriculum is out for summer break, but we’re of course not taking a break and instead we’ve started a special summer season called the Summer AV Club.

This whole community is based on our podcast, The Dark Academicals, which you can listen to on Spotify, Apple Podcasts, and anywhere else you get your podcasts, and deepens and broadens the discussion of dark academia.

You can read the full post on Substack announcing our Summer AV Club line-up and the titles coming up for season 8 of the podcast right here.

Or take a peek at this snazzy graphic with the full line-up:

We launched the Summer AV Club with ‘Saltburn’ (2023), because of course we did! Was there really any other choice? We talk fancy film stuff like colour grading and aspect ratio, but also about the music, the phenomenal cast, bacchanals, and whether we actually like ‘Saltburn’…

We followed ‘Saltburn’ with the very different vibes brought to us by ‘Mary Shelley’ (2017) as we deep dive into the murky waters of a biopic, the spot-on atmosphere, and the legend that is Mary Shelley herself, and how much more this film made us love her.

We’ve still got 7 Summer AV Club episodes to go - ‘The Riot Club’ will be live tomorrow (21 May) at 11am BST!

Please come and join us over on The Dark Academicals Book Club on Substack for some extra dark academia fun this summer (and beyond), and check out season 8 of The Dark Academicals podcast which begins on 28 May.
