What to read after Bridgerton: 9 historical romance novels to fall in love with

It’s finally here. Season 2.

TOMORROW.

We’re finally being reunited with everyone we fell in love with at the end of last year, and introduced to two major new characters, Mary, Kate and Edwina Sharma. I can’t wait.

But what about when you’ve binged the entire eight episodes in one go? There’s gonna be a hole to fill…

I know I’m going to be craving steamy, compelling, gossipy, escapist historical fantasy novels that take over my life. I’ve got some seriously good stuff lined up, and I suppose I could share…

  • ‘Something Fabulous’ by Alexis Hall - Sarah recently read and reviewed this romance about a Duke betrothed to one twin, and hopelessly in love with another, and she loved it!

  • ‘Reputation’ by Lex Croucher - I’ve been meaning to read Croucher’s debut for agessss. It’s meant to be ‘Bridgerton’ meets ‘Fleabag’ and even though I haven’t seen ‘Fleabag’, that sells me immediately!

  • ‘The Duke Undone' by Joanna Lowell - a painting student stumbling upon a gorgeous drunken man and being compelled to paint him in all his glory? YES.

  • ‘The Wisteria Society of Lady Scoundrels’ by India Holton - this one is Victorian set, but it absolutely has the right vibe. A lady thief lives her life swindling people as a member of a crime sorority, until she meets a handsome assassin that who throws a spanner in the works…

  • ‘The Siren of Sussex’ by Mimi Matthews - bluestockings, fashion, marriage markets and dashing tailors willing to take a risk on a girl from a rapidly tumbling family - this sounds so fun! And I love the cover too.

  • ‘Bringing Down the Duke’ by Evie Dunmore - Evie Dunmore is a historical romance legend and this is the start of one of her most popular series’ about one of the first female students at Oxford University, although this isn’t quite regency either… (my list, my rules)

  • ‘Romancing the Duke’ by Tessa Dare - another historical romance trailblazer! An author’s daughter, Isolde grew up on stories and fairytales, and now she’s getting her own.

  • ‘Bombshell’ by Sarah MacLean - three for three on the famous historical romance names with Sarah MacLean beginning a brand new series about Lady Sesily embracing the freedom and fun of living under the reputation of scandal.

  • ‘The Earl Not Taken’ by AS Fenichel - failed by finishing school and missing the marriages that her classmates snagged, 4 friends team up to protect each other. When one of them is finally ready to marry, her friend takes it upon herself to check out her prospective beau for herself…
