The Dark Academicals: magic schools, fairytales and haunted houses in the season 6 line-up

The podcast where we delve into the mythos of dark academia, one book at a time.

We’re gearing up for season six of ‘The Dark Academicals’ - our podcast dedicated to dark academia - and it’s time to announce our next six titles.

We have a really fun mix of dark academia settings this season: we have a TikTok romance, a magical school, a genuinely terrifying haunted house novel from the Queen of the Southern Gothic, and some more traditional university-set murdery novels. Hopefully there’s really something for everyone in this line-up!

If you’re signed up to our newsletter (we have giveaways and Q&As!) or listened to the final episode of season 5 then you got a sneak peek at the titles coming to your earbuds this season, but if you’re not quite caught up there’s no need to worry - we’ve got you covered.

You can listen via Spotify, Apple Podcasts, and this very website from 19 September 2023!

The full list of titles and the episode dates are below - we’d absolutely love you to read along with us!

  • ‘The Magicians’ by Lev Grossman (19 Sept)

  • ‘Gothikana’ by RuNyx (3 Oct)

  • ‘The Haunting of Hill House’ by Shirley Jackson (17 Oct)
